Going Grey Update: 7 Months On
Sorry, for the grim expression.
It’s Friday morning, I’ve had less than the requisite 6 hours sleep, we have sports day today and it’s grey and windy, I have at least 23 things I’d rather be doing, and I have to drive over to the ‘other’ side of the A40 and see a client this afternoon.
I don’t like feeling pressured, so this is my anxious face. Anyhow, you are not supposed to be looking at my face. This is a photo of my hair.
Yes, I know it’s grey. I last had it dyed at the beginning on December last year and don’t intend to have coloured ever again.
This was my original post. 6 weeks later, I posted this and I did a mini update here in May. Now I am Mostly Grey and most people have now realised my hair colour isn’t just the result of me being too busy to get to the hairdresser.
How do I feel about it now? I like it. I can’t wait until I can get rid of the last bits of red that are still clinging to the ends. I’m just leaving it for now as I want to be able to tie it back when we go on holiday in August, but after that I intend to have a trim and go All Grey.
People are less negative to my face than they were when I first said I was going grey. It may be that they have just consigned me to the ‘nutter’ heap, and who could blame them? But I’ve had a few people tell me they really like the colour, and I like to think they are genuine. I like the way that the grey is not uniform, I have some completely white hairs and some completely dark hairs. This mixture of colours was something I missed all those years I had my hair dyed one, bland colour.
My DH doesn’t care what colour my hair is, but my eldest DD1 isn’t keen. I’m the only mother in her class with grey hair apparently and she’s not keen on me standing out. The other kids don’t mind too much, but they are curious and interested. They don’t call my hair colour grey, they call it silver, which is sweet.
It’s time for me to get off this computer and get me, and my grey hair to sports day early enough to get a seat. My hair matches the weather today. Fingers crossed it doesn’t start raining!

It doesn’t look that grey in the photo, actually – dark with grey streaks rather than all-over grey. Must be nice not to have to faff about with hair dye.
Yeah, the grey is kind of patchy. It will change colour by itself as I age now. No need for hair dye!
It looks good. I was impressed when I saw you a couple of weeks ago that growing out the red didn’t look as bad as I thought it would, and the grey suits you.
I think it looks fine too. Certainly no worse than it did dyed!
Embrace the grey- I love it!
Thanks! I think I’ll love it more when the red is all gone.
