My Eleven

I’ve been tagged in Memes before, but never one like this.

SingleMarriedMum has been nice enough to tag me, which means I get to answer a bunch of questions, then tag another 11 bloggers to do the same.

But the difference is, that in this meme, I get to make up my own 11 questions. I just have to hope that someone bothers to answer them :)

First, here are the questions I was asked, followed by my answers.

What word/phrase would you ban?
‘Hun’, as in the term of familiarity. It mostly seems to be used by complete strangers wanting to appear friendly but it just makes me want to stab them through the eye with a blunt pencil. Please don’t use it in my earshot.

Ultimate comfort food?
It depends on the weather. If it’s cold I like soup, preferably a chunky one full of veggies and meat. If it’s warm, it has to be ice cream. I love all flavours but especially miss  the hokey pokey  ice cream of my childhood.

Whose life would you like for a day?
I actually really like my own life. But if I could have one child free day, in an interesting city I’d not ever been to before, and be free to eat, walk and drink whenever and wherever I wanted, that would be fantastic.

Best ever bargain?
I’m not much of a shopper so really can’t think of one in particular. I think we got our house for a decent price, if that counts?

Worst ever holiday?
We went to Portugal and Spain for a couple of weeks in the summer of 2008. DS was about 6 months old and we thought we needed some help, so we invited my sister to come with us for the last half. It wasn’t a success, instead it was like having a particularly truculent teenager along for the week. She had been working as a nanny so we were expecting a little help with the kids; after all, we had paid for her flights and accommodation. Unfortunately it didn’t work out that way.
Lark or owl?
If left to my own devices, I’d be a lark. I’d get up with the sun every morning and be in bed by 10pm. Unfortunately my DH is an owl, so I still get up at 6am, but end up going to bed around midnight with him. No wonder I’m always knackered.

Most loved item in your wardrobe?
I’m not into fashion . My criteria for clothes goes like this: Is it clean? Is it suitable for the weather? Does it have holes in it?
But I love my Sketcher Shape Up Shoes. They are supposedly designed to give legs and butt a work out, but I love them because they don’t hurt my poor damaged feet, and allow me to walk on them all day if necessary.

Beach or mountain?
Mountain. The beach is nice for an afternoon or so but I get bored with just sand and sea for anything longer than a day or two. For the last few years we’ve spent a couple of weeks during summer in the Alps walking, exploring and eating cake. We always have a wonderful time.
Most annoying habit?
Catastrophising.
I always think the worst is about to happen and want to prepare accordingly. I like to know where my DH is when he goes out at night, in case something awful happens in London. If it’s nowhere near where he is, then I don’t have to worry.
Today my elder two girls are at a Brownies day at a local camp. They are walking there as a bunch of 60+ girls and leaders, and I’m busy worrying that a car is going to plough into them as they walk along the road.

Favourite subject at school?
English followed very closely by science. I was encouraged to head down the scientific route as it was thought there was more money in it, and this was true when I was young, single and childless. Now I have a family, I’m basically unemployable and everyone who did English-related degrees at school is able to work from home on a free lance basis.
There is a moral there somewhere!

Top blogging tip?
Go self hosted and use WordPress right from the beginning and save yourself a whole lot of pain later on. If you’ve already got a blog, and it’s not with WordPress and self hosted, then change now. You will want to eventually and it’s better for your stats if you do it sooner, rather than later! ;)
Now my 11 questions!
  1. Coffee or tea?
  2. Do deadlines motivate or paralyse you?
  3. Are you a cat or dog person? Or perhaps you prefer another kind of pet?
  4. What can you not do that you wish you could?
  5. What one country, city or natural or man made wonder would you like to see before you die?
  6. If you could know the answer to any question, besides “What is the meaning of life?”, what would it be?
  7. What did you want to be when you grow up?
  8. What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?
  9. What story does your family always tell about you?
  10. Are you good at climbing trees?
  11. What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?
And the ‘lucky’ bloggers I’ve tagged are:
Remember memes are not compulsory. If you’ve been tagged already, or don’t think meme’s are a good fit for your blog, then don’t worry. But if you do feel like joining in, please come back here and post a link so I can see what your answers are.

Thank you – I will have a stab at this. Might take me a while to think up some new questions though and to think of 11 other bloggers!
