Password Confusion
I’ve just spent 20 minutes trying to remember my Hootsuite password.
My browser normally remembers it for me, but every now and again it times out, and I’m actually expected to input the code manually. And every time this screen comes up, my brain goes blank.
I probably look a bit like the owl above, actually. Whaaaat?
I tap in the code I think I remember a few times, get it wrong, then decide maybe I used a different email address and start fiddling with that too.
Of course, I almost always end up clicking on ‘Forgot Password’ and changing it that way. But here’s the thing; I then end up resetting it to what I could swear I saved it as last time.
And it’s not just Hootsuite. This happens to me almost every time I’m asked for a password for any site. Except for Ocado. I never forget that because I didn’t get to choose it. Go figure.
It shouldn’t be that hard for me to remember my passwords, surely. I have ‘a system’ that makes every password unique for the site visited, so it should be possible for me to work them out. But I never can. What am I doing wrong?
I’m the first to admit that my once rather efficient brain has imploded after years of child rearing, but I can’t believe that my mental faculties have declined to the point where I can’t remember a simple password that I use almost every day.
I can’t be the only one who struggles with passwords. Please tell me I’m not alone.
Bring on fingerprint or retinal identification I say!
And don’t get me started on the difficulties of captchas…
You’re not alone…. I can never remember them and have to write them down. I know that’s not good but I have too. So not to worry you’re not alone out there:)

I’ve contemplated writing them down, but knowing my luck I’ll lost what ever I’ve written them on as well.
yeah, same here, and I have the same problem with pin numbers… so much to remember!!!:(
Oh yes, PIN numbers too. I forgot mine, got locked out of my card and asked for another one. When I got it I realised it was the same one- weird!
I’m awful and have the same password for just about everything which I know is a big security risk but I wouldn’t stand a chance of remembering them otherwise!
Yeah, I’ve considered this but DH would have a fit. There must be a solution somewhere for the password challenged people of this world!
Fingerprint recognition would be the way to go!
