You can often tell what kind of pet owner someone is by whether they get their dog or cat anything for Christmas.
Some people go the whole hog, and get their pet toys, a Christmas outfit and even prepare them a ‘special’ Christmas meal. Their pets are treated as well as, or better than, the kids in the family and probably feature prominently in the family’s yearly Christmas card.
Other owners belong to the ‘I love my pet but it’s not a human’ school of thought, but still get their dogs or cats ‘something’ to go under the tree. These presents tend to be things that the pets need or normally have anyhow. Maybe a ball or a bone? Their owners could never be accused of going over the top when it comes to Christmas and their pets. but the thought is there.
And there are some owners who wouldn’t dream of buying their furry friend something for under the tree. In their opinion Christmas is for humans, not for animals.
No matter what sort of pet owner you are, Christmas can be a stressful time for dogs and cats. Their daily routines are disrupted by visitors; there are decorations to chew, chase or climb and the smells of delicious food is everywhere. Christmas can present more than one way to cause trouble for your pet.
No matter what kind of pet owner you are, there is something no dog or cat owner should be without this Christmas and that’s pet insurance. It’s part of being a responsible pet owner.
