The Circle Of Life

Yesterday I bought The Old Boy’s ashes home.

What was left of him was returned to us in a small cardboard box, with his name (wrongly) printed on top.  Next time I leave an pet for cremation, I’ll remember to check the name the surgery is going to put on the form. I still use my maiden name quite a bit and it turns out our lovely old man was registered under that, not my married name. So he came back to us labelled ‘Old Boy Maiden Name’, when he really should have been ‘Old Boy Married Name’.

Still, it’s comforting to have him home. He’s sitting under my side of the bed for now. He used to sleep beside it, but The Lurcher has taken that spot now.

Co-incidentally, or maybe not, I also received this in the post yesterday.

It’s a paw cast of the Old Boy’s feet in happier times, done by the lovely CJ of Rockabelly Lifecasting. She’s cast all the kids too, when they were babies, and then again last year for my husband’s 40th.

This little paw cast may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I like having a 3 dimensional reminder of our lovely boy.

CJ is down in Kent, but worth travelling for if you fancy having a cast of pretty much anything done. Have a look at her gallery for inspiration, here.

But onto other news, we found a puppy!

This is The Puppy.

He’s in a rescue in Hertfordshire and is one of a litter of 5. His mum is a lovely German Shepherd who was surrendered to an Irish Pound by her owner, because ‘she keeps getting pregnant’. * Insert rude word here* She won’t tell us who the father is, but we are guessing that a collie may have been involved, given the puppies’ colouring.

Mum is just 2 years old and The Puppy is from her 4th, and last, litter.

The Puppy will be joining us here at Mymumdom in a couple of weeks time, when he is 8 weeks old. The kids are hugely excited. I am a little apprehensive, and hope that The Puppy gets the idea of toilet training more quickly than The Lurcher did.

Stay tuned for regular updates containing puppy induced chaos…

    • All puppies are gorgeous! They are very hard work though, and I’m not sure how ready I am for it!
